Suomen Hyötytuuli Oy built 10 offshore wind turbines outside Tahkoluoto in Pori. The offshore wind turbines are designed around Finland’s first offshore wind turbine, which was completed in 2010.

Wind power production is expected to keep expanding to the sea due to better wind conditions and the possibility of building large-scale offshore wind farms.

Studies carried out by Suomen Hyötytuuli indicate that the project is feasible in terms of its technical requirements. The area has an excellent infrastructure and wind conditions for wind power production.

The Tahkoluoto wind farm produces about 155 GWh of electricity per year. This corresponds to the annual electricity consumption of about 8,600 detached houses.

Permit procedure

The EIA procedure for the project was completed in 2007. The results of the environmental impact assessment have been utilised in the design and land use planning of the project. The EIA documents (only in Finnish) can be viewed through the following link:
