Suomen Hyötytuuli completes Siikajoki wind farm and becomes the largest wind energy producer in Finland

With its latest wind farm at Siikajoki entering production phase, Suomen Hyötytuuli increases its capacity to 654 megawatts. The company is now the largest producer of wind energy in Finland.

Siikajoki wind farm in Northern Ostrobothnia in Finland is Suomen Hyötytuuli’s largest wind energy project so far. The wind farm, consisting of 38 wind turbines, produces over 700,000 megawatt hours of energy annually. The assembly of the turbines was completed last autumn, after which the work has continued with test use and gradual commissioning. Siikajoki wind farm increases Suomen Hyötytuuli’s capacity to 654 megawatts and its annual energy production to over 1.9 terawatt hours.

”The project was largely completed on schedule. Due to the fire at Hitachi’s transformer factory in Vaasa, the project will continue until next summer when the transformers will be replaced. However, all 38 turbines have been in production already since the beginning of 2025,” says Harri Suutari, Project Director at Suomen Hyötytuuli.

With the completion of Siikajoki wind farm, Suomen Hyötytuuli became the largest wind energy producer in Finland. Suomen Hyötytuuli’s share of the wind energy capacity completed in 2024 was approx. 30%. Of the total wind energy capacity in Finland, the company’s share was approx. 8%. Finland’s wind energy capacity last year was 8,358 megawatts in total.

2024 marked the 25th anniversary of Suomen Hyötytuuli’s wind energy production. The wind turbines built in Reposaari, Pori in 1999 were also the first megawatt-scale turbines in Finland. Today, Suomen Hyötytuuli has ten wind farms on the West Coast of Finland.
