Metsähallitus to sell its share of Raahe’s Annankangas wind farm to Suomen Hyötytuuli
Suomen Hyötytuuli Oy will purchase Metsähallitus’ share of the Annankangas wind farm in Raahe. Suomen Hyötytuuli and Metsähallitus have jointly been developing a wind farm of 10 wind turbines in an area in the eastern part of the City of Raahe, with Hyötytuuli owning 5 of the turbines. Metsähallitus and Hyötytuuli will foresee the finalization of the permit process together.
The operating principle of the Metsähallitus Laatumaa is to develop areas suitable for wind turbines while minimizing the environmental effects.
“The strategy of Metsähallitus focuses on creating investment opportunities for wind power. Building of wind power reflects positively on the local business, thus benefiting the whole community, as well” says Ms Heli Harjula, Wind Power Specialist of Metsähallitus.
A pioneer in its field, Suomen Hyötytuuli has nearly 20 years of experience in Finnish wind power. The company is owned by eight mid-size Finnish energy companies.
“Suomen Hyötytuuli’s capacity target is to have 400 MW more of clean domestic energy from wind power. Hyötytuuli already has one wind farm in operation in Kuljunniemi, Raahe. Gaining full ownership of the Annankangas wind farm supports our growth target in the best possible way”, comments Ms Miia Wallén, Project Development Manager of Suomen Hyötytuuli.
The Annankangas wind farm is located in full within the area of the City of Raahe, at a distance of about 26 km from the town center. The planning of the area takes into careful consideration the special nature values, sufficient distance from housing and also complies with the WWF’s recommended safety distance from the known predatory birds.
