Suomen Hyötytuuli takes two new wind farms into production
Suomen Hyötytuuli Oy ramps up its energy production by taking into production two new wind farms: Oosinselkä on the west coast of Finland, and Alajoki-Peuralinna in Ostrobothnia. The wind farms generate approx. 185 megawatts and are expected to produce as much as 500 000 megawatt hours annually. With the completion of Oosinselkä and Alajoki-Peuralinna wind farms, the wind energy production of Suomen Hyötytuuli is nearly doubled.
The construction of Oosinselkä wind farm in Pori and Eurajoki was started in 2022. Its fifteen wind turbines generate 90 megawatts and produce 250 000 megawatt hours annually. The wind turbine supplier is Vestas Wind Systems.
Alajoki-Peuralinna wind farm, situated in Perho and Kyyjärvi, is made up of fourteen wind turbines that generate approx. 90 megawatts, with an estimated 250 000-megawatt hours annual production. The construction work was started in 2021. The wind turbine supplier is Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy AB.
The main contractor in both projects was Infra Builders Oy, wind farm transformers are supplied by Hitachi Energy Finland and the substations by Eltel Networks Oy.
”Both projects were delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic and the impacts of Russia’s war in Ukraine as well as the fire at the Hitachi transformer factory in Vaasa, so we were not short of challenges. Now both projects have been successfully completed, thanks to all the parties involved”, says Harri Suutari, Project Director at Suomen Hyötytuuli.
Suomen Hyötytuuli has currently nine wind farms in operation in Finland, one under construction and several in planning phase. The company’s largest wind farm project so far, Siikajoki wind farm, is expected to be finalised in early 2025. At the completion of Siikajoki’s 38 wind turbines, Suomen Hyötytuuli’s wind energy production reaches 650 megawatts and its annual production 1900 gigawatt hours.
